All about Tirthankars - 24 Tirthankars of Jains

Tirthankar means founder of tirtha. The Jains believe as the tithankars to be a redeemer and divine preacher of dharma.

As per Jains, a tirthankar is an individual who has conquered the saṃsāra, the cycle of death and rebirth, on their own, and made a path for others to follow. The teaching of tirthankars forms the basis of Jain apostolic law or functioning policy.

According to Jain cosmology the wheel of time is divided in two halves, Utsarpiṇī or rising time cycle and avasarpiṇī, the descending time cycle (current now).
