Orange Choco Lava Cake - Recipe

Choco Lava Cake from the time of its inception is a hit, not only among young kids but between older adults too. Generally served a bit hot and as soon as you break it out comes a burst of liquid chocolate just like lava hence the name choco lava cake.

In India it was Domino's who got this cake its popularity and even today if you tell an Indian about one thing that comes in his or her mind when they hear choco lava cake, the answer would be Domino's Choco Lava Cake.


Today I will share a quick recipe for making choco lava cake, but I just made a twist to it, am going to show you how to make orange choco lava cake that too without eggs and without oven, I personally feel the combination of orange and chocolate is the best, so what are you waiting for. Let's Begin....

Ingredients & Steps:
We will make two different mixture first, a solid mixture and a liquid mixture and then mix both these mixtures together and bake to get our Orange Choco Lava Cake.

Take 2 bowls.
Preparing the Liquid Mixture:

  • In 1 of the bowl.
  • Add 1/2 cup chilled orange juice
  • Add 3 tbsp oil
  • Add 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Add 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • Add 1 tsp orange essence
Mix Well.
Sugar should dissolve completely.
Keep the liquid mixture aside.

Take small baking cups (katori with wide mouth).
  • Grease with 1 tsp butter
Put the baking cups in the refrigerator.
Let butter solidify.

Preparing the Solid Mixture:
  • Take the 2nd bowl
  • Put 1 pinch of salt
  • Add 3 heaped tbsp cocoa powder
  • Add 1/2 cup all purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Mix this dry ingredients properly.

Take out the buttered cups from the fridge.
  • Put 2 tbsp all purpose flour (maida)
  • Roll the cups so that flour (maida) sticks everywhere evenly.
Again freeze it.

Now mix the liquid mixture and dry mixture together.
Use a whisker to make sure no lumps form.
Mix it quickly and for less time else gluten will develop and the mixture will become bread rather than cake.
Pour the mixture in your baking cups or molds.
  • Fill half the mold and then put 100g of dark chocolate bar in it
Fill the rest of the mold with the mixture.
Put it in the freezer for 1 minute only.

Making a steamer for baking (no oven):
  • Take a pot with a lid.Fill it with little  - 1 to 2 cup water.
  • Put a metal stand inside.
  • Bring the water to boil.
Water will start releasing steam.

Place your cake molds on the metal stand.
Close the lid.
Cook for not more than 4 minutes.
[Alternative: If using an oven, then bake for 8 minutes at 180° C]
Take it out from the steamer and let it cool down for sometime.

Take a serving plate, using a strainer sprinkle some cocoa or chocolate powder on the plate.
Place the cake out of the mold and on this plate.
Garnish with two slice or clove of orange and a sprig of mint leaf, few choco chips and liquid chocolate.
Serve it along with vanilla ice cream or chocolate ice cream.
