Hello Friends, here is another chutney recipe as promised. The tomato and Onion chutney is a fusion chutney which is a must go with our south indian platters, the tangy tomato and spicy onion adds another flavor to those fusion dishes. Let's Begin.......
Ingredients & Steps:
Heat up a pan.
- Add 5 tbsp oil
- Add 1/2 tsp heeng (asafoetida)
- Add 1 tsp urad dal
- Add 2 dry red chilli
- Add 2 tsp mustard seeds
Saute for a minute or until the dal starts getting brownish.
- Add 2 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
- Add 6 cloves of garlis
- Add 1" ginger
- Add 8 - 12 curry leaves
Stir again for 1 - 2 minutes
- Add 1 cup onion (diced)
- Add 1 green chilli
Toss it for another 2 minutes.
- Add 2 cup tomato
[TIP: Ration of Onion : Tomato will always be 1:2]
- Add salt as per taste
- Add 1 tbsp (heaped) tamarind pulp
Mix properly and toss well.
Cook for 10 - 12 minutes, until tomatoes are soft and mashy.
Once done, let it cook down a little bit.
Take a mixer grinder and transfer the cooled down ingredients in it.
Grind to get a semi thick paste, without using any water.
Since this chutney has all cooked ingredients, thus further tempering is not required.
Tomato Onion Chutney is ready.
