Moilee or Molee or Moily different names of the same special type of spicy curry, which is made with coconut milk. Originally the Portuguese bought this recipe to India and it was widely accepted in Goa, as the Portuguese first landed in Goa. Later the Goans re-invented this curry as per Indian taste.
In general Moilee curry is used in combination with fish, prawn or other varieties of sea foods, but now lot of people have started combining other forms of meat with Molee curry and are inventing new dishes.
Apart from Goa other southern coastal states of India like Kerala has also embedded this curry into their kitchen and cuisine. Not only India, you will find a wide usage of this curry in other parts of the world too, like Malaysia and Philippines.
Even I invented a dish of my own using this curry "Mix Veg Moilee" and today will share the recipe with you. Let's Begin...
Ingredients:
Cut some vegetables, do not fine chop them, keep small pieces.
- 3 - 4 green chillies (chopped)
- 1 big size onion (chopped)
- 2 tomato (chopped)
- 1 boiled potato (chopped)
- 2 carrot (boiled & chopped)
- 50g bean (boiled and chopped)
- 50g green peas (boiled)
- 5 - 7 cloves of garlic (fine chopped)
- 100 - 150 grams paneer (cottage cheese - chopped & fried)
- 50g soya chunks (soaked overnight in water)
- 7 - 10 pcs of curry leafs
- 5g ginger (fine chopped)
- 10g roasted salted peanuts (for garnishing)
Steps to make Mix Veg Moilee:
Heat up a pan.
- Add 1 tbsp coconut oil
- Add garlic
- Add ginger
Cook the ginger and garlic until light brown.
- Add 2 tsp mustard seeds (rai)
- Add onions
- Add green chillies
- Add 1 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
- Add salt as per taste
Stir and cook for 2 - 3 minutes.
Put off your gas flame.
- Add 200 ml to 300 ml coconut milk
Mix and stir well.
- Add all the vegetables
- Add paneer (cottage cheese)
- Add soya chunks
- Add curry leafs
Close the lid of the pan.
Cook for 5 minutes to 10 minutes.
When you see the curry shimmering and getting thick.
- Add 1 tbsp fresh cream
Stir well and switch off your gas flame.
Mix Veg Moilee is ready to be served.
Take it out in a serving plate or serving bowl.
Crush the peanuts into coarse granular powder.
Garnish the Mix Veg Moilee with peanuts on the sides, and fresh chopped coriander sprigs along with a strand of curry leaf.
