Paneer Popcorn - Recipe

Irrelevant title. That is what you might be thinking, reading the name of the recipe 'Paneer Popcorn'. Well, some call them popcorn, some have named them shots, some even call them nuggets and some call them balls. Basically they are crispy paneer fitters, deep fried and small or tiny in size. Pop one after the other in your mouth after dipping them in a bowl full of cheesy dip or mayonnaise or just plain and simple tomato ketchup. 

These little easy to cook paneer popcorn are simple, easy and fast to make and can be served with tea as a tea time snack or can be served during lunch or dinner as appetizers or starters. Alright, I know al my friends are now getting excited to know how to make paneer popcorn. So why wait more, Let's Begin.........


Ingredients and Steps:

  • Take 200 grams of Paneer (Cottage Cheese)

Cut them into small pieces / cubes of even sizes.

Take a mixing bowl.

  • Add 1 tsp chilli powder
  • Add 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • Add 1 tsp salt
  • Add 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Add 1 tsp onion powder
  • Add 1 tbsp coriander leaves (fine chopped)
  • Add 3 tbsp maida (all purpose flour / refined flour)
  • Add 3 tbsp corn flour

Mix and stir the dry mixture.

  • Add cut paneer cubes

Dry coat the mixture on all the cubes. Since paneer will have moisture, thus the dry mixture will stick to paneer. One you have coated the paneer, take them out on a different or another plate or bowl.

Now let us make a batter out of the dry mixture we already have. So, in the same bowl which already has the dry mixture.

  • Add 2 tbsp corn flour
  • Add 2 tbsp maida
  • Add 2 tbsp curd
  • Add 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • Add 1 tbsp onion garlic paste (if required)
  • Add water (as required)

Make a batter out of the mixture, which is nor too thick neither to thin or fluid.
Dip the dry coated paneer cubes in the batter and oat them properly.
Take out the batter coated paneer cubes and dip them in a bowl full of bread crumbs.
 
  • Now coat the bread crumbs on the batter coated paneer cubes and let paneer cubes sit for 2 - 5 minutes in the bowl of bread crumbs. (This will help the bread crumbs harden).

Heat up a pan with some oil.
Once oil is hot. Turn the flames to medium and fry the paneer cubes until they are evenly golden brown in color.
Paneer Popcorn are almost read, now to give them a tangy, spicy and shocking flavor. 

Take a bowl.

  • Add 1 tsp salt
  • Add 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Add 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Add 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Add 1 tsp chaat masala
  • Add 1 tsp powder sugar
  • Add 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • Add 1/2 tsp pizza oregano
  • Add 1/2 tsp pizza paprika (chilli flakes)

Sprinkle the spice mix on top of fried paneer immediately once you take the paneer out from hot oil, so that the spice mix (masala) sticks to all the fried paneer cubes.

Paneer Popcorn are now ready.

Serve it as starters or snacks during lunch, dinner or tea time. Accompany a bowl of cheesy dip if you are a cheese lover or else some sweet and spicy ketchup would do the trick.
