Coconut Chutney - South Indian Recipe

We all have eaten the most famous, healthy and widely available south indian dish, idli and dosa. Today these few south indian dishes are considered to be the best breakfast recipe, and they are served with different chutney (sauce).

The most common and traditional chutney is the coconut chutney, without which IDLI or DOSA would be nothing. Let us see how we can make coconut chutney. Let's Begin.......



Ingredients & Steps:

 
 
Take a mixer grinder.

  • Add 2 cups coconut (freshly grated)
  • Add 2½ tbsp chana dal (roasted)
  • Add 1 tbsp peanuts (roasted)
  • Add 1 green chilli
  • Add 1" ginger
  • Add 1 small tamarind
  • Add salt to taste
  • Add 3/4 cup water (as per consistency) 

Grind everything to get a paste.
Take it out on a serving bowl.
To complete the chutney recipe we need tempering (tarka)

Thus, heat up a pan.

  • Add 2 tbsp oil
  • Add 2 dry red chillies
  • Add 2 tsp mustard seeds
  • Add 2 tsp urad dal
  • Add 1 tsp chana dal
  • Add 10 - 12 curry leaves

Stir properly, as soon as mustard seeds starts popping. Take the pan near the serving bowl were coconut chutney is kept and pour the ingredients from the pan directly on top of the chutney.
Stir once to mix.
