If I talk about Indian cuisine, hotdog is not a recipe in common. Hotdog is mostly and widely available in western culture where mined meat or sausages are light fried and kept between breads topped with mustard sauce. Hot Dog is a street food and also a fast food item and is widely eaten by people of western countries. Indians being foodie have also adopted hotdog recipe from western countries and then tweaked it to Indian taste, by adding Indian spices and sauces.
In India Hot Dog and Burger are considered to be almost same. Today let us make hot dog. Follow my recipe to cook this hot dog right from scratch and in your home kitchen. Let's Begin..........
Ingredients and Steps:
Breaking down the ingredients and steps into division where we will make the bun, make the vegetarian patty and sauces then assemble them together like a burger or hot dog.
Making the BUN:
See How to make Buns and Breads: HERE
Make the buns exactly as stated in the recipe and use it, while shaping the buns you can either make it as stated in the recipe or give it a hotdog bun shape also by making the shape long rather than circular, if you want to skip this step then you can purchase ready made buns from the bakery also, however I would suggest to make the buns fresh in your home.
Making the HOTDOG PATTY:
Take 5 potatoes (Indore variety also known as chipsona variety)
- Pressure cook the potatoes until 2 whistle in high flame and then keep cooking for 5 - 7 minutes in low flame.
- Potatoes will get 70% - 80% cooked.
Once the potato cools down, then peel off the skin.
(TIP: If you use any other variety of potato then in place of besan use rice flour)
Take a big size mixing bowl.
- Grate all the potatoes
- Add 1 tbsp coriander leaves (fresh and fine chopped)
- Add 2 green chillies (fine chopped)
- Add 1 tsp red chilli powder
- Add 1/2 tsp chaat masala
- Add 1/4 tsp garam masala
- Add salt as per taste
- Add 5 tbsp besan (chickpea flour. Use rice flour instead, if using a different variety of potato)
Mix well to form a good bonded dough.
- Make small balls out of the dough.
- Flatten the balls to get thick size patty shapes. (You can make sausage shapes also, if using a hotdog shaped bun).
- Check the size of the patty with comparison to the bun size. Once size is proper, exactly like the size of the bun.
- Fry in medium hot oil for 5 - 7 minutes or until golden brown from all sides.
Hot Dog Patty is ready.
Now let us assemble the hotdog.
- Take one bun at a time, slice it from middle, so that it splits open but leave one end intact.
- Spread spicy coriander chutney on one side of the bun.
- Spread sweet tamarind sauce (imli chutney) on the other side of the bun, and little tomato ketchup.
- Put some onion rings.
- Put the potato patty inside.
