Locho, a funny name right? Well, friends let me tell you, it is a traditional dish of Gujarat. A very famous street food too.
Locho is derived from the hindi word LOCHA, which simply means messed up. There is a saying in hindi "Locha ho gaya", and the gujarati version is "Locho thai gayi", which literally translates to "I messed up or I goofed up something and now there is a problem".
Locho is also famous with the name Surti Locho, because this dish was first accidentally made in the city of Surat, thus it gets its name Surti Locho, which means messed up dish from Surat.
Legends says that one fine morning a man wanted to prepare DHOKLA to surprise his wife, in the breakfast, however the man made some mistake and messed up the dhokla recipe. After realizing that he has goofed up the dish and that his wife would be sad seeing wastage of food. He quickly chopped few onions, coriander leafs mixed them with his messed up dhokla, added some Indian spices to it and placed it in front of his wife. To his astonishment his wife liked the dish and from there till date Locho is being made and served.
